Welcome to St. Andrew's C of E Primary School

At St. Andrew's Primary and Early Years Centre we aim to create a happy school with high standards of achievement and behaviour in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.  Our Christian values underpin everything we do and we recognise the strengths of each unique individual.

There has been a school serving the village of Chardstock and the surrounding area since 1712.  Our new school opened in 2009 and provides extensive modern facilities, including a variety of outdoor spaces for playing and learning.

I hope you find the information on our website useful and informative but the best way to get a real feel about us is to come and visit.  You will receive a very warm welcome and we look forward to meeting you.

Oliver Twist

St. Andrew's Primary was transformed into Victorian London when a theatre company visited the school.  M&M Theatrical Productions presented Oliver Twist to children from the school who were also joined by children from Mrs Ethelston's Primary Uplyme.  The children were enthralled as the story unfolded and enjoyed the familiar songs.  Click the heading to see more photographs.

Terrific Temperatures

Herons Class from Mrs Ethelston's Primary and Oak Class from St. Andrew's Primary joined together for a really inspirational science morning.  Dr. Usher, from Colyton Grammar School, presented a workshop on 'Terrific Temperatures'.

The children learnt about changing states, created their own thermometers and froze bananas and blu tac inventing blu tac nails and banana hammers.

Thanks to Dr Usher for inspiring the children and showing everyone how exciting secondary science will be.

Raising Funds for the Church

St. Andrew's Church in the village of Chardstock are busy fundraising to refurbish the clock in their tower.  The children at the school gave a helping hand recently by holding a cake sale and making a picture of the church and tower out of loose change.  A total of £115 was raised.  The church were thrilled with the efforts of the children.  Well done everyone who took part.

Fun at Knapp House

Update - Friday

Last night's disco was a great end to our final evening. This morning has been the first day where the children have needed to be woken up.
Today we have our final cooked breakfast before heading to the lake for canoes, dragon boats and inflatable rafts. After lunch we will be packing our bags and heading home!

Update - Thursday

A very sunny start to our last full day at Knapp House. The first football match began at 7:30 to build an appetite for another big breakfast. Today's activities involve inflatable ring riding behind speedboats, more climbing, abseiling, tunnelling and a disco after dinner.

Update - Wednesday

After a busy day and a good nights sleep everyone is slowly getting ready for another large breakfast. Today we are crabbing, taking a trip on a speed boat, trying an obstacle course, wire walking and canoe safety training in the pool.  All the children had an amazing day yesterday with everyone having a go at all the activities.

Playground Excitement

There was great excitement in the playground this week as the children took delivery of some brand new equipment which they can use during the lunch breaks.  Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of School they can now play with a cannon stomp, lolo balls, stilts and scooter boards.  Some of the children put together a rota so that everyone has a fair share of using them.  The sun shone as the children used the equipment for the first time although some of the items took more practice than others.  Thank you Friends of School.
