Welcome to St. Andrew's C of E Primary School

At St. Andrew's Primary and Early Years Centre we aim to create a happy school with high standards of achievement and behaviour in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.  Our Christian values underpin everything we do and we recognise the strengths of each unique individual.

There has been a school serving the village of Chardstock and the surrounding area since 1712.  Our new school opened in 2009 and provides extensive modern facilities, including a variety of outdoor spaces for playing and learning.

I hope you find the information on our website useful and informative but the best way to get a real feel about us is to come and visit.  You will receive a very warm welcome and we look forward to meeting you.

Party Time for Maple and Hazel Class

Having received a letter form a worried King Jeremy III, explaining he needed to throw a party but didn't know how, Maple and Hazel Classes came to the rescue.

We looked carefully at what we would need to do to the throw a successful party, from writing the invitations and creating the decorations to finding and creating good recipes for healthy party food. When the planning stages had finished we threw a party to check that it would all work out appropriately. Having had a very successful party, complete with party games, we wrote a recount of the party to send to King Jeremy III so that he knew exactly what to do.

Parents of children starting Reception Class in September 2015 are invited to our Open Morning to meet with staff and tour the facilities.

18th November at 10.00 a.m.

If you are unable to attend our Open Morning please call the school on 01460 220534 to arrange a visit at a convenient time.

We look forward to meeting you.

Parliament Workshop

Roz Birch from the Parliament Education Service paid a visit to Oak Class recently.  The children learnt all about the House of Commons and the House of Lords.  The class set up a mock House of Commons and took part in debates overseen by the speaker, one of the children, about proposed bills to extend the school day until 5 p.m. and whether the children should have homework before Year 9.  Following each debate, votes were cast and supisingly were not passed!

The children then divided into groups each forming their own policitcal party.  Each party came up with fun new ideas for school which included forest school activities, aquatic activities and a choice of sports each day.  The party leaders presented their ideas to the rest of the class and again a vote was taken to determine the best idea.

The morning was a valuable insight into the workings of Parliament while enabling the children to develop debating and presuasive techniques.
